Has it ever happened to you that you’ve been traveling for a while, staying in multiple hotels in a short period of time?
When we visited Fukuoka, my wife and I stayed at a hotel near Hakata Station. It was one of those taller hotels, with around 15 floors.
On the first night, we were heading back to our room and I asked her, “Do you remember what floor we’re on?”
She said no.
So we played a little guessing game, going to different floors hoping to find our room. After trying a few, we gave up and went to reception to shamelessly ask for our room number.
Later in the trip, we stayed at another hotel in Tokyo, near Ueno.
I got into the elevator and had the same thought again: wait, what floor are we on?
After tapping the room card, one of the floor numbers started flashing for a couple of seconds.
That was our floor.
How often does a small design detail save you from having to think about what floor you’re on?
